Backpocket

Privacy policy

Last updated 16 October 2026

Without an account

Your saves, folders and settings live only in this browser on this device. Backpocket has no server copy of them, and guests never talk to a Backpocket server. Clearing site data or uninstalling removes them, so use Backup & import to keep a copy.

With an account

Signing in with Google gives us your email address, name and profile picture. Your folders, links and plans sync to a Supabase database so they show up on your other devices. Settings stay on the device. Each account can only read its own rows.

AI features

AI is optional, needs an account and has one switch in Settings. When it is on, the link, its caption and your note are sent to Google Gemini to sort, title and tag it. AI-written reminders and recaps send the titles, platforms and folder names of the saves involved. With AI on, Backpocket also stores a numeric summary (an embedding) of each link to power search by meaning and More like this.

If you use your own Gemini key, it is stored only on your device and only ever sent to Google.

Other services the app talks to

Backpocket has no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies. It keeps your theme, your sign-in session and, if you add one, your Gemini key in your browser's local storage.

Reminders

Reminders and the weekly recap are opt-in and are worked out on your device.

Deleting your data

Guests can delete everything by clearing this site's data. Signed in, Settings, Delete my account and cloud data removes your account and every row it owns. You can keep a local copy if you like.
